Wikan Secures Win In Waipi'o

The Sharks win the non-conference matchup against Hilo 1-0

WAIPAHU, Hawai'i. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Hawai'i Pacific men's soccer team faced off against the Hawai'i-Hilo Vulcans in a non-conference matchup. The Sharks looked to build some momentum back up as they entered the matchup with three straight losses with their biggest homestand of the season just around the corner.

In the opening minutes of the first half, the Sharks brought the fight to the Vulcans, keeping the possession towards Hilo's back line. The consistent pressure from HPU paid off as Sebastian Navarro delivered a volley towards a leaping Erik Wikan, who was able to bury a header past the keeper to put the Sharks up 1-0.

In the second half, the Vulcans tried everything they could to find an equalizer as they shifted their lineup in an attempt to revive their offense. However, the Sharks played suffocating defense against their PacWest opponent, allowing only one of Hilo's 7 shots being on target.

The game ended with Connor Margo's second clean sheet of the season as the Sharks earned a much needed win as they improved to 2-7-2 (0-3) on the season.

HPU will look to repeat the same outcome this Saturday, Oct. 7th, as they face off again at Hilo in a PacWest sanctioned matchup
