Men's Basketball Puts on a Shooting Clinic in 91-77 Victory over Golden Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – The Hawaii Pacific University men's basketball team traveled to CU Arena to take on Concordia Irvine University Thursday night. HPU ran away with the game, shooting a season-high 65 percent from the field in a 91-77 victory over CUI.

The Sharks (10-17, 6-13 PacWest) will prepare for their final game of the regular season on Saturday, while the Golden Eagles (5-19, 4-15 PacWest) are on a 5-game skid.

Senior Trey Chapman got Hawaii Pacific on the board by slamming it through the net. It was a tight battle in the first eight minutes of the game as the two teams fought through five ties. A run in the middle of the first half saw the Golden Eagles jump ahead 28-22. With seven minutes to go, the Sharks used some phenomenal shooting to explode for a 20-7 run, giving themselves a 42-35 lead going into the lockers.

It was still a close contest in the second half. There were a couple of points where it seemed that Hawaii Pacific  might run away with the game, but Concordia Irvine never let it happen. However, with a 65-60 lead and ten minutes left in the game, HPU decided to put this match away for good. Senior Marquis Moore converted an and-1 opportunity, which ignited the Sharks for an 18-7 run. They never looked back as they took home the victory in Irvine, 91-77.

Hawaii Pacific opened up a shooting clinic tonight, shooting an unbelievable 65 percent from the field. This beat their previous season best by nearly 12 percent

Moore had himself a night, scoring a season-high 31 points, hitting 75 percent of his shots. He was also tied with sophomore Mason Landdeck for a team-high four assists.

Chapman and senior Jalen Chandler followed right behind with 18 and 16 points respectively. They also combined for 17 made shots on 18 attempts, free throws included.

Finally, freshman Melo Sanchez scored 13 points, while junior Maj Dusanic snagged a team leading eight rebounds and swatted away two shots.

The Sharks will now travel to La Mirada, California for their final game of the regular season. They will battle against Biola University on Saturday, February 25 with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. PST inside Chase Gymnasium.
