WAIPI'O, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer (2–3–4, 1–2–3 PacWest) delivered another gritty defensive showing against regionally ranked Azusa Pacific (6–1–3, 3–0–0), falling just short in a 1–0 decision Saturday evening at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Sharks' back line, led by goalkeeper Skylar Jacobsen, turned away multiple Cougar threats throughout the night. Jacobsen recorded seven saves in the match, keeping HPU within striking distance until APU's Haley-Scott Recarte scored the lone goal in the 61st minute.
Jaiden Westrom led the Sharks' attack with two shots on goal, while Anela Tong added another as HPU continued to pressure late in search of an equalizer.
Despite being outshot 16–4 and conceding nine corners, HPU showed strong organization and resilience against one of the PacWest's top regional programs, proving once again that its defensive unit can hold its own against elite competition.
The Sharks will look to regroup and capitalize on their defensive momentum as they continue conference play next week.
