HILO, HI – In front of a loud crowd of 711 at Vulcan Gymnasium, Hawai'i Pacific women's volleyball flashed resilience and encouraging trends despite a 3–0 result at Hawai'i Hilo (25–19, 25–18, 25–13).
The Sharks (4–13, 0–4 PacWest) came out composed, trading points to 10–10 in set one and again pulling even at 13–13 in set two. HPU's first-contact held up under heavy serve pressure—libero Taylor Kaoihana steadied the floor with 15 digs, while Jasi Kjellesvik posted a perfect 1.000 reception on eight chances to help the Sharks side out at 50% and 52% in the opening frames.
Offensively, Marley Sandoval provided an efficient spark, hitting .417 with five kills and two aces. Lindsey Tapp added six kills, Sofia Cooper chipped in five, and setter Maile Salang distributed 10 assists with seven digs. Jordyn McCutcheon added nine assists and seven digs to keep rallies alive and attackers in rhythm.
At the net, HPU's block trended up every set—1.0, 2.0, then 3.0 team blocks—highlighted by Ella Schoene's three total blocks and a late-set stuff that fueled a mini-run. The Sharks forced extended rallies throughout, holding Hilo to .240 in the third and closing the match with their best blocking numbers of the day.
HPU leaves Hilo with clear building blocks: improved reception, an upward trajectory at the net, and efficient scoring from Sandoval and Tapp. The Sharks will look to roll those gains into PacWest play as they return to O'ahu.
