Sharks Outlast Fairbanks in Overtime Thriller, 86–85

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball closed out its Alaska trip with a resilient 86–85 overtime win against Alaska Fairbanks on Sunday afternoon at the Alaska Airlines Center. The Sharks move to 1–1 on the year after rallying in a game that saw 16 lead changes and nine ties.

HPU came out strong with a 36-point first half, then matched that energy late when it mattered most—outscoring the Nanooks 11–10 in overtime to secure the victory.

Joshua West led the Sharks with a game-high 25 points, knocking down three triples and coming up with big shots down the stretch. Quentin Meza continued his standout weekend, putting together an ultra-efficient performance with 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-4 from deep and five rebounds. His consistency across both games earned him All-Tournament Team honors for Hawai'i Pacific.

Quinton McCullough dominated the paint with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double, giving the Sharks a steady interior presence all afternoon. HPU finished the game shooting 44.7% from the field and grabbing 43 rebounds, including 13 second-chance points that proved crucial in a one-possession finish.

HPU held a 36–29 lead at halftime before Fairbanks responded with a 46-point second half to force overtime. The Sharks stayed composed, hitting four shots in the extra period—including two threes—to put the game away.

The win closes out the Sharks' Anchorage run on a high note as they now return home with momentum heading into the rest of non-conference play.
