SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University women's volleyball closed out its final road trip of the season on a high note, sweeping Dominican University (CA) in straight sets, 25–14, 25–23, and 29–27, on Wednesday night inside the Conlan Center.
The Sharks looked sharp from the start, controlling the opening set behind a balanced attack and dominant front-row defense. Marley Sandoval set the tone early, picking apart the Penguin block while adding crucial touches at the net. HPU hit .243 in the frame and held Dominican to a zero hitting percentage to grab the first set, 25–14.
Momentum carried into the second, where Lindsey Tapp caught fire from the outside and Jordyn McCutcheon kept the offense flowing. Despite a late push from Dominican, the Sharks remained composed and sealed the set 25–23 to go up 2–0.
The final set turned into a gritty back-and-forth battle. Dominican refused to go quietly, pushing the Sharks deep into extra points. But it was HPU's experience and poise that made the difference — Sandoval delivered in the clutch while Jasi Kjellesvik and Tapp anchored the back row to close out the 29–27 win and complete the sweep.
Sandoval finished with a match-high 14 kills and 6 blocks, while Tapp added 11 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. McCutcheon recorded 18 assists and 12 digs, and Kjellesvik led all defenders with 15 digs and a pair of aces.
The Sharks out-hit Dominican .168 to .055, leading in kills (46–31), digs (76–66), and assists (41–23).
Hawai'i Pacific improves to 6–21 on the year and 1–10 in PacWest play.
