Sharks bats come alive late but drop both to Westmont

2/15/2025 6:37:00 PM

Box Score Santa Barbara, CA - The HPU Sharks dropped games 1 and 2 to the Westmont Warriors Saturday, February 15th. The Sharks struggled to come through with runners in scoring position for most of the day while the Warriors were able to capitalize on mistakes en route to victory. The Sharks had a solid starts from both Connor Hourigan and Shea Blanchard to keep them in both games but both Westmont was able to build around really good outings from starters Bryan Peck and Ryan Humphries who were able to strand many runners on base.

Westmont jumped out to a 2 run lead in the bottom of the 1st with a 2 run single from designated hitter Isaac Veal but remained quiet offensively until the 8th inning where they were able to push another run across from a Colin Callahan double. The Sharks scattered hits throughout the game including doubles from Tyler Arnold and Troy Harding but were unable to score as they lost 3-0 in game 1.

Westmont got the bats going early in game 1 led by a solo shot from catcher Tyler McEvoy and jumped out to a 4-0 led in the 4th inning. Noah Blythe cranked a 2 run no doubter to the opposite field in the 5th to cut the deficit to 2, but a Daniel Patterson home run started a rally in the bottom half at the 5th that led to a 6 run inning for the Warriors. The Sharks were able to keep the offensive momentum going into the later innings as Bronson Rivera hit a 2 run homer and a Carter Jones double to set the Sharks up with runners on 2nd and 3rd was followed by a 2 run double from Tyler Arnold, but the late inning surge wasn't enough as the Sharks dropped the second game 11-6.

Noah Blythe continued to swing a hot bat for the Sharks while Cristian Padilla and the rest of the Sharks bullpen continued to be reliable late in games keeping the Sharks only a couple at bats away from completing the comeback. The Sharks will look to take 2 big games from the Warriors and even things up on Monday, February 17th.
