Sharks Split Four-Game Series in Hilo

HILO, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific battled through a four-game PacWest series against Hawaii Hilo at Francis Wong Stadium, splitting the series after closing strong on Saturday behind a dominant offensive performance and a solid showing in the finale.

The Sharks opened the series on Friday with a tough 3-0 loss, despite putting together six hits. HPU had opportunities throughout the game but stranded nine runners on base, unable to find the timely hit. Kan Taguchi and Noah Hata each recorded hits at the top of the lineup, while the pitching staff kept the Sharks within reach by limiting the Vulcans to three runs.

Later that evening, HPU responded with a more productive offensive effort, collecting nine hits and scoring three runs. The Sharks broke through in the third and fourth innings to take momentum, with Hata leading the way with two hits and an RBI, while Taguchi added another multi-hit performance. However, Hawaii Hilo answered late to pull away with a 5-3 win, handing the Sharks their second loss of the day.

Hawai'i Pacific bounced back in a big way to open Saturday's doubleheader, delivering its most complete performance of the series in a 14-0 rout. The Sharks set the tone early and erupted for 10 runs in the third inning, breaking the game wide open. Plate discipline and pressure on the bases proved to be key, as HPU drew 10 walks and consistently forced action. Jayden Gabrillo led the offensive surge with three hits and two RBIs, while Noah Hata scored three times. Tyler Arnold reached base four times and crossed the plate four times as well, helping fuel the explosive outing. On the mound, the Sharks were equally impressive, holding Hawaii Hilo to just four hits in a shutout performance.

The Sharks carried that momentum into the series finale, securing a 6-3 victory to earn the split. After a scoreless start through the first three innings, HPU broke through with a two-run fourth inning and continued to build its lead the rest of the way. Arnold delivered one of the standout performances of the game, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Taguchi added two hits and an RBI. Hawai'i Pacific totaled nine hits in the finale, and the pitching staff limited the Vulcans to three runs, closing the door late to seal the win.

With the split, the Sharks showed resilience after a slow start to the series, responding with consistent offense and strong pitching down the stretch as they continue PacWest play.
