Honolulu, HI – The Hawai'i Pacific University softball team battled hard but fell in both games of their doubleheader against No. 10 Western Washington at Sand Island Park on Sunday. The Sharks dropped Game 1, 6-1, before a late rally by the Vikings led to a 7-5 loss in Game 2.
Game 1: Western Washington 6, HPU 1
The Sharks' lone run came in the sixth inning when Alexis Oshiro stole home to put HPU on the board. Danielle Cote led the offense with three hits, while Jewel Larson and Taryn Hirano each doubled. Taylor Thompson (3-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs over 4.2 innings.
Game 2: Western Washington 7, HPU 5
HPU led for most of the game, jumping ahead 5-2 after a strong third inning. Oshiro tripled to drive in a run, while Tiari Hernandez added a sacrifice fly. The Sharks held the lead until the top of the seventh, when Western Washington erupted for five runs, including back-to-back home runs to steal the win. Angelica Oseguera pitched 6.1 solid innings before Maggie O'Dowd (0-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Looking Ahead
Despite the losses, HPU showed resilience against a nationally ranked opponent. The Sharks will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they star Pacwest play on Wednesday
