Box Score 4 Fresno, CA - The Sharks split the opening series of their California road trip against Fresno Pacific, winning the first and last game of the series. With the Sharks struggled to get the bats going against the Sunbirds ace Connor Semone, they swung it well the other 3 games scoring at least 8 runs in each of them.
Game 1
The Sharks were able to get it going early in the first game. With starting pitcher
Jacob Vanek shutting down the FPU offense, the Sharks were in control with a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning. Fresno was able to put up a 5 spot to make it a 1 run ball game, but the Sharks added 5 runs in the 7th, and 4 runs in the 8th to put the game away and secure a 15-7 win. It was a dominant performance from the HPU offense with every starter reaching base at least one time.
Game 2
The Sharks struck first in game 2 on a 3 run homer off the bat of
Bronson Rivera, but game up a 7 spot in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make in 7-4 Sunbirds. The Sharks rallied back to tie it up in the 4th inning but the Sunbirds pushed across 3 in the bottom of the 6th.
Tyler Arnold led off the 7th with a bomb but it wasn't enough as the Sharks lost 10-8.
Game 3
The third game was a low scoring affair as FPU ace Connor Semone was able to shut down the Sharks into the 9th inning surrendering just 1 run. The Sunbirds scored 4 in the 2nd inning before senior
Ryan Schuelke came in and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings out of the pen. Freshman
Jayden Gabrillo also had an impressive outing going 2 scoreless innings.
Game 4
The Sharks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in game 4. They were able to capitalize on FPU's mistakes and have competitive at bats to manufacture a lot of runs without an extra base hit. FPU battled back all game scoring here and there and were finally able to tie the game up in the 5th on a 3 run bomb. Heading into the 6th inning with a tie game,
Daniel Johnson did what he does best, find a way on base and into scoring position. This brought
Skyler Agnew up with 1 out and he delivered with a lined shot into right field scoring Johnson in what turned out to be the deciding run in the game. Closer
Ryan Inouye got 6 straight outs to secure the victory for the Sharks.
The Sharks did a great job all weekend of capitalizing on mistakes and taking the extra base. They once again proved that they are a swiss army knife offensively and can score runs in many different ways.
Noah Blythe and
Noah Hata both had great weekends as Blythe collected 9 hits while Hata had 6 with a couple of stolen bases.
Troy Harding also had a great weekend, showcasing his power going off the wall to the opposite field in game 1 and hitting a no doubt home run to left field in a tightly contested game 4. The Sharks also played great defense, especially
Frankie Peralez who made a big time play in the 6th inning of game 4.
The Sharks will look to continue the momentum of game 4 into their next series at Jessup, slated for
March 19-21.
