Box Score 4 Lincoln, CA - The HPU baseball team split with a very competitive Jessup team this week. The Sharks had lost 2 of out 3 games going into the final game, but proved once again they can perform when their backs are against the wall. Game 4 was a 14 inning thriller that the Sharks just refused to lose as they evened up the series in a statement win.
Game 1
The Sharks struck 1st in game 1 with a 2 run shot from
Bronson Rivera to cap off a 3 run first inning. The lead was short lived as Jessup answered back with 5 runs in the bottom half. The Sharks battled back with a run in the third and the fourth inning to even things up at 5 going into the 5th inning. Jessup was able to get the bats going again and put up 5 unanswered to seal the victory.
Game 2
Jessup was able to jump out to an early 3-0 in the first inning of game 2 but the Sharks quickly answered back to tie things up at 3 in the top of the 2nd. The Sharks added 2 more in the 3rd inning on a pair of RBI singles, and managed to hold on to the lead for the remainder of the game. Another long ball from
Bronson Rivera, this time a 3 run shot, broke the game open for the Sharks. Jessup rallied in the last inning but freshman
Jayden Gabrillo was able to finish the game with a stellar outing, going 4 innings out of the bullpen.
Game 3
The Sharks struggled to get the offense going in game 3 as they found themselves in a hole down 4-0 going into the 5th inning. A
Kan Taguchi RBI single put the Sharks on the board, and they added another run in the 6th on a
Tyler Arnold solo shot. The Sharks scored another in the 7th on a
Daniel Johnson RBI single, and had the tying and go ahead runs on base, but fell just short as they lost 4-3.
Game 4
The Sharks couldn't have started the final game any better, with
Bronson Rivera and
Skyler Agnew hitting back-to-back homeruns to lead off the game for the Sharks. The two teams went back and forth all game, drawing even at 8 going into the 8th inning. It became a battle of the bullpens with
Ryan Inouye and
Cristian Padilla throwing almost 7 innings combined.
Jayden Gabrillo came to bat as a pinch hitter for the Sharks to lead off the 14th inning, and smoked a single the other way for his first college hit.
Drew Sanidad laid down the sacrifice bunt to get him in scoring position before
Skyler Agnew once again delivered in the clutch with an RBI single to give the Sharks the lead. The Sharks pushed one more across on a passed ball before
Jett Ah Sam took the mound for the Sharks and went 3-up, 3-down to seal the deal 10-8, in what ended up being the longest game in Jessup baseball history.
The Sharks showed their grit and resilience this week against a very polished Jessup team. They will look to carry the energy into next week as they play Menlo on March 24th-25th.
