Sharks Earn First Win of the Season in Hawaii Challenge

HONOLULU - The Sharks (1-3) take their first win of the season against Cal State Los Angeles (1-1) in an exciting 5-set finish going 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-27, and 16-15.

The Sharks were led offensively by senior Peyton McBride, who tallied 17 kills, six block assists, and 12 digs. Defensively, the Sharks were led by senior Marley Sandoval who provided a wall of 10 blocks and 11 kills.

Other standout performances include junior middle blocker Ella Schoene who earned 7 kills, 7 blocks and a .438 attack percentage.

"I'm really proud of our girls for securing our first win of the season," said Head Coach Jenic Tumaneng. "They showed a lot of grit and determination out there tonight, but we are aware that it is a long season and this is just the start. Tonight, we set the bar and we are going to have to keep elevating it throughout to get what we want."

The Sharks played two matches in the first day of the Hawaii Challenge, but dropped the first match against Cal State East Bay (1-0) in a decisive sweep going 20-25, 25-27, and 12-25.

The Sharks return to the court Sept. 5 at 7:00 as they take on the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs Mountain Lions at the Shark Tank.
