Honolulu, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific returned home and delivered another strong offensive performance, outlasting Vanguard 80–76 on Wednesday night at the Shark Tank to improve to 9–4 overall and 5–3 in PacWest play. In a game that featured six ties and nine lead changes, the Sharks closed with poise behind timely three-point shooting and balanced scoring.
HPU shot 51 percent from the field and a season-best 14-for-31 from three, using an eight-three first half to open the floor before finishing with 43 points after the break. The Sharks matched Vanguard's physicality on the glass, limited turnovers late, and held firm defensively in the final minutes to secure the win.
Joshua West led HPU with 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting, burying five threes and adding three rebounds. Quentin Meza followed with 16 points and six assists, handling late-game pressure and converting key plays as Vanguard rallied. Avi Halpert provided a major spark with 14 points and six rebounds, knocking down four threes in one of his most efficient outings of the season.
Maj Dusanic went a perfect 4-for-4 for eight points and five boards, Nemanja Sarenac contributed six on a pair of threes, and Quinton McCullough anchored the interior with nine rebounds, four points, and three assists. Casey Steadmon added five points off the bench in his three minutes of action.
HPU shot 50 percent or better in both halves, finishing the night at 50.9 percent from the floor and 45.2 percent from deep. Vanguard was strong from the perimeter as well with 11 made threes, but the Sharks' efficiency and ball movement — highlighted by 19 assists — proved to be the difference.
With the win, Hawai'i Pacific extends its PacWest success and looks to continue the momentum as conference play rolls on.
