2/1/2026 5:34:00 PM

HILO, Hawai'i — Hawai'i Pacific University Men's Tennis earned a hard-fought 4–3 victory over Hawai'i Hilo on Sunday morning at the UHH Tennis Courts, improving to 2–0 on the season.

HPU set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning at the top two positions. The No. 1 team of Yannick Heitzeberg and Seth Newman secured a 6–4 win, while Mile Matic and Ethan Terry followed with a 7–5 victory at No. 2 doubles to give the Sharks a 1–0 edge heading into singles play.

The Vulcans answered with wins at the top of the singles lineup, but HPU responded with strong performances across the middle and lower courts. Adam Vasir delivered a key three-set win at No. 3 singles, battling back after dropping the second set to close out the match. Newman added a straight-set victory at No. 4, and Rene Gabriel Jung clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 6 singles to seal the Sharks' fourth point.

With the victory, Hawai'i Pacific showed composure and depth, responding to momentum swings and grinding out points in tightly contested matches throughout the lineup.

The Sharks will carry the momentum forward as they continue early-season play, building confidence and chemistry as the schedule progresses.
