Senior Sharks Celebrate Senior Night With APU Sweep

HONOLULU — The Hawaiʻi Pacific University men's basketball team celebrated Senior Night in style Thursday, honoring six veterans and delivering a strong second-half surge to defeat Azusa Pacific 75–66 in PacWest Conference action.

Before and after the game, seniors Joshua West, Maj Dusanic, Josh Niusulu, Quinton McCullough, Kemp Van Es, and Ethan Taafe were recognized for their contributions to the program, setting the stage for an emotional evening at the Shark Tank.

HPU (16-9, 12-8 PacWest) trailed 40–36 at halftime but dominated the final 20 minutes, outscoring Azusa Pacific 39–26 behind efficient shooting and relentless interior play. The Sharks shot 54.5% from the field in the second half and controlled the paint, finishing with a 38–22 advantage in points inside.

West led the Sharks with 19 points and six rebounds, going 8 of 10 from the free-throw line while helping key a balanced offensive effort. McCullough added 16 points on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting night and grabbed five rebounds, while Quentin Meza contributed 13 points and three assists. Avi Halpert chipped in eight points, and Dusanic anchored the defense with eight rebounds.

Azusa Pacific (6-18, 4-15 PacWest) built an early 11-point lead in the first half behind hot perimeter shooting, but HPU steadily chipped away. A late first-half push trimmed the deficit to four before the Cougars carried a narrow lead into the break.

The Sharks took control midway through the second half, using a decisive run fueled by defensive stops and transition opportunities. HPU finished with a 16–1 edge in fast-break points and received 29 points from its bench, highlighting the team's depth.

With the victory, Hawaii Pacific sent its seniors out with a memorable home performance, combining poise, balance, and defensive intensity to secure the conference win in front of an appreciative crowd of 367.

The Sharks will close out their regular season on the road,  starting with Point Loma on the 26th and Concordia on the 28th. Both of those games can be streamed on the PacWest Network.
