SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Hawai'i Pacific's run in the PacWest Championship came to an end Friday afternoon as the Sharks fell to top-seeded Point Loma, 95–66, at Golden Gym.
HPU finishes the game 18-11 overall (13-9 PacWest) after advancing to the second round of the conference tournament.
Point Loma came out firing early, shooting 68 percent from the field in the first half, including 8-of-13 from three-point range, to build a 54–28 lead heading into halftime. The Sea Lions continued their strong offensive performance in the second half to secure the victory.
Josh Niusulu led the Sharks with 11 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Quinton McCullough added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kemp Van Es also finished with 10 points off the bench.
Quentin Meza and Joshua West each contributed eight points, while Kahiau Bruhn provided a spark with seven points in nine minutes.
HPU shot 38.6 percent from the field and finished 7-of-29 from three-point range, while Point Loma connected on 16 three-pointers and shot 53.3 percent overall.
Jaden Matingou led Point Loma with 20 points and seven assists, while Caden Harris added 17 points for the Sea Lions.
The Sharks received 25 points from their bench and forced 11 turnovers, but Point Loma's efficient shooting proved difficult to overcome.
Hawai'i Pacific concludes its appearance in the PacWest Championship tournament after reaching the second round.
