HONOLULU — Fresh off an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, the Hawai'i Pacific men's basketball program continues to add length, athleticism, and versatility to its roster with the signing of former Western Oklahoma State College standout Franciz Wai.

Head coach Jesse Nakanishi and the Sharks added one of the more intriguing JUCO wings on the market in Wai, a long and explosive Australian forward who brings elite athleticism, defensive upside, and efficient perimeter shooting to Honolulu.

The 6-foot-7 wing arrives at HPU after an impressive sophomore season at Western Oklahoma State, where he averaged 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field and an impressive 44 percent from three-point range. Wai quickly developed a reputation as a high-motor two-way player capable of impacting the game on both ends with his length, energy, and versatility.

With a 6-foot-11 wingspan and the ability to defend multiple positions, Wai gives the Sharks another versatile piece on the perimeter heading into the 2026-27 season. His combination of athleticism, floor spacing, and defensive activity fits perfectly into HPU's up-tempo style and emphasis on toughness, versatility, and relentless effort.

"I chose HPU because of how the coaches care for players on and off the court, to explore and learn about a new culture and it's a great opportunity to grow as a man and a basketball player. The things I'm most excited about is to build relationships with my teammates and coaches and learn and embrace myself with the culture and community." - Franciz Wai

Wai's commitment continues HPU's strong offseason momentum as the Sharks aggressively reload following one of the most successful seasons in program history. Known for identifying under-recruited talent with high upside, HPU's staff believes Wai's best basketball is still ahead of him as he transitions into the PacWest Conference.

"Franciz is a unique talent joining our program. His ability to impact winning with his athleticism, motor and defensive prowess will make him a fan favorite! We couldn't be more excited!" - Jesse Nakanishi

Wai becomes the latest addition to a rapidly evolving Sharks roster that continues to blend experienced returners with impactful newcomers from across the country. His athleticism and versatility add another dynamic layer to a team looking to build off its NCAA Tournament run and continue competing near the top of the PacWest Conference.
