Sharks Fall to Hawai'i in Cross-Town Matchup

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific fell 7-0 to Hawai'i on Saturday afternoon at the University of Hawai'i Lower Campus.

Hawai'i opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Anuhea Aluli converted a penalty kick. The Rainbow Wahine struck again in the 16th minute, as Aluli found the net a second time off an assist from Olivia Dianda to make it 2-0. Sharks goalkeeper Natalie Navarro made four saves across the opening half.

Hawai'i extended its lead in the second half, starting with a goal from Jas Cayetano in the 51st minute. Aluli completed her hat trick in the 60th minute, assisted by Karissa Kira and Cayetano, to make it 4-0.

Hawai'i added three more goals down the stretch. Tatum Porter converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute, Parisa Abedi scored in the 84th minute, and Porter added her second goal of the match in the 87th minute, assisted by Abedi, to close the scoring at 7-0. Hawai'i finished with 34 shots, including 16 on goal; Azjah Tocher made five saves in the second half after replacing Navarro to start the period, giving HPU nine saves combined on the night.

Hawai'i Pacific was whistled for seven fouls to Hawai'i's six in a physical matchup that saw 13 total fouls called, including a yellow card on HPU's Ashlee Backoff in the 19th minute and a yellow card on Hawai'i's Mia Hashimoto in the 86th minute. Hawai'i held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. 

The Sharks continue their season at home against Texas Woman's University on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Waipio Soccer Stadium.
