HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer fell 4-1 to Texas Woman's University on Sunday afternoon at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
Texas Woman's opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Giselle Gutierrez scored unassisted. The Pioneers added a second goal in the 34th minute on a strike from Mardie Frye, assisted by Ailyn Oliveros, before Bri Luna made it 3-0 in the 40th minute. Sharks starting goalkeeper,
Azjah Tocher, made six saves in a busy first half that saw Texas Woman's out shooting HPU 14-2.
HPU got on the board in the 69th minute when
Lisette Almanza scored unassisted, marking her first regular season goal with HPU.
Natalie Navarro, who took over in goal for HPU to start the second half, made two saves during her time in net. Texas Woman's answered in the 76th minute on a goal from Lauren Wade to make it 4-1, which held as the final score of the match.
Hawai'i Pacific finished with eight shots, including four on goal. Almanza led the Sharks with two shots, while
Ocean Bustamante and
Cadence Mason each had a shot in the second half. HPU's goalkeeping tandem combined for eight saves on the night, with Tocher and Navarro splitting time evenly at 45 minutes apiece.
Hawai'i Pacific was whistled for 10 fouls to Texas Woman's six, while Texas Woman's held a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. HPU's
Lauren Longworth and Texas Woman's Niyah Gee each picked up a yellow card in the second half.
