KAHUKU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University cross country opened competition at the 2026 Big Wave Invitational on Saturday at Kahuku Golf Course, highlighted by a team victory and the top two individual finishes from the men's squad.

The HPU men won the 5K with 25 points, finishing ahead of Chaminade's 31. The Sharks placed four runners inside the top seven, led by Drake Hanley, who captured the individual title in 18:18.90.

Aaron Humphries followed directly behind Hanley, finishing runner-up in 19:06.10 to give HPU the top two spots. Philip Stavnem added a fourth-place finish in 20:55.50, while William Dulay-Jones crossed the line seventh in 24:28.70. Brenden Kato rounded out the Sharks' scoring five in 11th at 33:39.30.

HPU finished with a total team time of 1:56:28.50 and an average of 23:17.70 to secure the team title.

On the women's side, the Sharks placed third in the 5K with 82 points, finishing behind Hawai'i and Hawai'i Hilo and ahead of Chaminade. Hawai'i won the team competition with 15 points, followed by Hawai'i Hilo with 55.

Aspen Maldonado led HPU with an 11th-place finish, crossing the line in 21:00.00. Carly Dyer followed in 13th with a time of 22:11.80, while Charlotta Buss finished 15th in 23:33.20.

Alaina Greve was the fourth Shark across the line, placing 20th in 27:13.50, while Darlene Alvarez finished 23rd in 33:52.00. Cyndi Phelps was also listed for HPU in the results, but the provided results do not list a finishing time for her, so I would not add one.

The HPU women recorded a total team time of 2:07:50.50 with an average time of 25:34.10, finishing just five seconds ahead of Chaminade in total team time.
