Altamonte Springs, FL (5/12/10) – At the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Tournament, HPU fell to Abilene Christian University, 5-4. The match was the opener for the Sea Warriors in the 16-team field. HPU closes its season at 22-4 while ACU (18-11) advances to the quarterfinals.
HPU was unable to win any of the three doubles matches. Sebastian Bader and Dominic Mclusky fell at one doubles, 8-4, to Luke Hawk and Bryan Joiner. At the two match, the HPU pair of Daniel Luedi and Anton Samuilau were topped by Edad Campbell and John Strahl, 8-5. Nikola Petrov and Aleksandar Markov played in the closest doubles match, falling to the ACU pair of Brett Proctor and Alfredo Desiati, 9-8 (8-6) at the three.
HPU rallied in singles play, as the No.3 through No.6 games went to the Sea Warriors. Luedi topped Desiati 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) at the three, Mclusky defeated Hawk at the four 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, and Bader and Samuilau won the five and six games, respectively, in straight sets.
Petrov and Markov were unable to garner the decisive point for HPU, falling at one and two singles, respectively.
