Honolulu, HI (November 6, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team exacted revenge on Academy of Art on Sunday in four sets at St. Andrew's Priory (21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18). HPU is now 15-9 overall and 10-5 in the PacWest.
Art U continued its good play at the Priory with a first set 25-21 victory. In the second set, HPU broke a 10-10 tie on a kill by
Courtney Curran. After that, HPU didn't trail. HPU got some separation in the third set when kill by
Haley Doerfler gave HPU a 17-11 lead. HPU led 24-17 before finishing the set. In the fourth set, HPU broke a 12-12 tie to take the lead, but the set remained tight. HPU only led 19-18 before taking the next six points for the win.
Doerfler and
Natasha Bell each had nine kills to lead HPU. Pihana Kea had 17 assists and
Hannah Schuett had 12 in HPU's 6-2 offense.
Kyra Pelayo had 27 digs, while Kea had 18 and
Sanoe Recca had 12. HPU racked up nine aces in the match, including three from
Christina Furrer.
HPU's last regular season match in on Saturday against BYU-Hawai'i at St. Andrew's Priory at 7 PM. After the match HPU will honor seniors Pelayo,
Allison Bonk, Bell,
Nicole Deaton,
Brittney Wood and Curran.
