Baseball Swept in Doubleheader

Waipahu, HI (February 24, 2010) – Hawai'i Pacific dropped a pair of games to Northwest Nazarene, 10-2 and 6-2. Despite high expectations in the preseason, HPU falls to 2-6 on the season. HPU still can split the series if they win the final two games on Friday and Saturday.

In game one, the Sea Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, and held it until the fifth inning when NNU stuck for five runs. NNU would tack on four more runs in the late innings to win 10-2. HPU only had six hits for the game and continued to make mistakes defensively, making five errors. Brent Queen was the losing pitcher giving up six runs in four and two-thirds innings.

Game two also saw HPU jump out to an early lead; Troy Ajer and Blake Amaral each had RBI hits to put HPU on top 2-0 in the first inning. The lead would be short-lived as NNU scored four runs in the top of the second and then added two more in the fourth. HPU had opportunities, stranding 12 runners for the game. Ajer and Amaral both had multi-hit games. Cory Yuh took the loss, surrendering six runs in four and two-thirds innings.

HPU and NNU will play a single game Friday at Hans L'Orange Park, starting at 6 P.M.
