Baseball Tripped Up In Utah

St. George, UT (March 14, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific's hot bats were cooled off by Dixie State pitching, as the Sea Warriors dropped both games of the PacWest doubleheader, 8-2 and 4-2. The bullpen was strong for HPU, pitching a combined six and a third innings and allowing only one run. The losses drop HPU to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

In game one, Dixie State struck for five runs in the first inning and HPU never recovered. With the score 8-0, the Sea Warriors tried to mount a comeback scoring two runs in the sixth, but it would stop there. Kale Sumner and Rylan Morihara each had RBI hits accounting for the Sea Warriors runs.

Jordan Oshiro and Morihara each had two hits to pace the Sea Warrior attack. Starter Sergio Contreras gave up eight runs, six of them earned, in three and a third innings. Cory Yuh pitched four and two thirds innings of one hit baseball in relief.

In game two, the Sea Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after posting single runs in the second and fourth innings. The lead would not stand up as Dixie State scored four unanswered runs. Chad Bolibol and Morihara both collected two hits in the loss. Brent Queen got the loss for HPU, giving up three runs in four and a third innings.

HPU heads to Phoenix to play Grand Canyon on Thursday, starting at 1 P.M.
