Men’s Tennis Drops Heartbreaker

Las Vegas, NV (March 14, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific's upset bid fell just short as HPU lost 5-4 to fifth-ranked West Florida. HPU split the singles matches, winning at second, third, and fourth. The Sea Warriors however dropped two of three doubles matches. HPU falls to 7-5.

In a homecoming, Las Vegas native JC Pauli teamed with Petr Michnev, the duo started hot, and then held on to win 8-6 over Lukas Larsson and Mike Lue. In maybe the turning point of the match, Ari Davis and Matiss Libietis lost a nail biting tiebreaker at first singles, 9-8.

At second singles, Sebastian Bader won a marathon match over Andrey Pozhidaev 7-6, 5-7, 7-6. In the quickest match of the afternoon Matiss Libietis defeated Sean Gunnels 6-2, 6-0 and in a hotly contested contest, Ji Hoon Heo disposed of Jose Carlos Tolentino 6-1, 6-4.

The Sea Warriors version of “March Madness” continues tomorrow as HPU takes on third-ranked Armstrong Atlantic at 9:00 A.M. in Las Vegas.
