Honolulu, HI (September 1, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific could not overcome 34 hitting errors, losing to 25
th ranked University of California- San Diego 3-1 (14-25, 25-21, 10-25, 19-25). Senior
Natasha Bell was the only Sea Warrior in double figures in kills, she finished with 13.
The match started off close in the first set, a
Haley Doerfler kill tied the set at 11. After that however, it was all Tritons. UCSD allowed just three more points as they rushed to 25. HPU jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the second set on a
Meagan Macias kill. HPU extended the lead to 20-12; UCSD made a push, but was turned away at the end. HPU was buried in the third set, never leading. The fourth set was very close, HPU took an 18-15 lead on an ace by
Kyra Pelayo. UCSD then went on a 10-1 run to close the match.
Pelayo had 24 digs to lead HPU, Bell had 12 and
Sanoe Recca had 10. Pihana Kea had 28 assists. HPU falls to 1-2 on the season.
UCSD improves to 1-0 and was led by Hillary Williamson who had 15 kills.
HPU retakes the court tomorrow against Sonoma State at St. Andrew's Priory at 7 p.m.
