La Jolla, CA- In a marathon match between two of the top five teams in the country, #5 Hawai'i Pacific lost 5-4 to #2 Barry University (10-0) in a neutral site match near San Diego. HPU is now 4-2 on the season with the losses coming against the first and second ranked teams in the nation.
HPU had opportunities to take the match. After doubles play HPU held a 2-1 advantage when

Ielyzaveta Rybakova took second doubles by a score of 8-6 and
Zora Vlckova/
Lea Kruse-Utermann won at third doubles 8-5.
Needing three wins in singles play, HPU got victories from
Vivian Hansen and Rybakova at fourth and fifth singles. However, HPU couldn't win the clinching point. Goetti lost 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5 in a grueling match and
Magdalena Smejova lost (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2)) in similar fashion.
HPU will stay in La Jolla and play UC San Diego tomorrow at 11 AM.
