SURPIRSE, ARIZ. — The No. 3 Hawai'i Pacific women's tennis team delivered a strong showing at the PacWest Championships, advancing to the semifinals with a 4-1 win over No. 6 Dominican before battling No. 2 Point Loma in a hard-fought 4-2 decision.

HPU opened the tournament with control and composure, securing the doubles point against Dominican behind a pair of tight 6-4 victories. Carrying that momentum into singles play, the Sharks continued to dictate the match.

At the top spot, Evi Roobol led the way with a dominant 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Kayleigh Castillo followed with an impressive straight-set victory at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. The match was ultimately clinched on court five, where Rosa Viller Moller sealed the 4-1 team win with a 6-4, 7-5 performance. The victory pushed HPU into the semifinals and improved the Sharks to 15-4 on the season.

In the semifinal round, Hawai'i Pacific faced No. 2 Point Loma in what turned into one of the most competitive matches of the tournament.

Doubles proved to be the early difference, as the teams split courts before the point was decided in a tight tiebreak on court one that went in favor of Point Loma.

The Sharks responded in singles with resilience. Roobol once again stepped up at No. 1, grinding out a three-set win, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. Castillo remained steady at No. 3, earning another straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-4, to even the overall match at 2-2.

With the match hanging in the balance, the final result came down to two extended three-set battles. Hawai'i Pacific pushed both courts deep, showing fight and composure throughout, but Point Loma was able to narrowly secure both matches to clinch the 4-2 decision.

Despite the semifinal loss, the Sharks showcased their depth, competitiveness, and ability to perform under pressure against one of the top teams in the conference. Hawai'i Pacific concludes the tournament with a 15-5 record and strong momentum moving forward.
