Men’s Tennis Turned Back in Quarterfinals

Louisville, KY (May 17, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific men's tennis team lost today in the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals to #1 Armstrong Atlantic State (28-0) by a 5-1 count. The first doubles team of Patric Guenther and Petr Michnev were the bright spot for the Sea Warriors as they won 8-5.
 
Guenther and Michnev defeated Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov, who are the nation's top ranked doubles team. Armstrong's top pair is 25-2 this season with both losses coming to Guenther and Michnev. Armstrong took second and third doubles by 8-1 and 8-0 scores.
 
In singles play the Pirates won at second, fourth and fifth singles. Michnev took the first set against top ranked Rumenov and lost the second set before the match was stopped.
 
Men's tennis ends another successful season with a record of 15-5. The Sea Warriors were ranked as high as sixth nationally and first in the region. The men's tennis team went as far as any other HPU team this school year.
