Lousiville, KY (May 17, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's tennis team closed the 2012 season with a record of 18-6 after falling 5-1 against #3 Armstrong Atlantic State.
Ielyzaveta Rybakova capped her stellar junior season with a win at fifth singles.
Armstrong, with all three of its doubles teams ranked in the top 17, swept doubles play. The teams of
Vivian Hansen/
Magdalena Smejova and
Celina Goetti/Rybakova both played tough, but lost 8-5.
Rybakova was overmatched in the first set in her singles match, losing 1-6. However, she roared back to take the next two sets 6-0, 6-2. With the win, the Kiev native extended her record to 17-2.
Carrie Shuler and
Vivian Hansen each won a set and
Zora Vlckova was tied 6-6 in the second set when play was stopped. Armstrong was too much in the end, winning at second and sixth singles to earn the win.
Women's tennis ends another successful season where it was ranked fifth nationally and second regionally for most of the season. The lady Sea Warriors went as far as any other HPU team this school year.
