KONA, HI (February 16, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team had little trouble dispatching UH-Hilo, 9-0, in Kona on Saturday. The Sea Warriors did not drop a set all day.
The team of
Vivian Hansen and
Magdalena Smejova earned an 8-2 victory at first doubles as
Karen Ramirez and Lea Kruse Utermann won by a similar 8-1 score. The “closest” match of the day was at second doubles where
Celina Goetti and Liza Rybakova won 8-3.
Singles play featured more Sea Warrior domination with the Vulcans only winning two games in any match. Smejova,
Carrie Shuler, and Kruse-Utermann all posted perfect 6-0, 6-0 wins.
Head coach
Lauren Conching was happy with opening day, “After practicing for so many months, it was really nice to start competing again. I thought the girls came out really strong today and I am looking forward towards the matches we have coming up against the other local schools before we head on the road."
The two teams will play again tomorrow in Kona at 9:00 AM.
