Women's Tennis Continues Hot Start

San Diego, CA (March 9, 2013) - The Hawai'i Pacific (6-0) Women's Tennis Team continued their electric start, defeating the number 10 team in the nation, West Florida (5-3), 5-4. The victory marks the fourth straight win over a nationally ranked opponent.

The Sea Warriors jumped out to a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles action after sweeping all three matches. Vivian Hansen and Magdalena Smejova stayed hot defeating their opponents 8-5.

The Argonauts put up a fight in singles action winning four matches, but Karen Ramirez and Smejova won the two matches the Sea Warriors needed to secure the victory. Ramirez won her third singles match 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 while Smejova won the deciding match 6-3, 5-7,6-0.

Our team has really been tested on so far on this road trip.  We got a great start today in doubles which is the only reason we were able to pull out this match.  We are lucky to have a day-off before we start the last half of our very tough road trip," said head coach Lauren Conching

The HPU women return to action, this time in Las Vegas, facing Fresno Pacific University. The match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM.
