LAS VEGAS, NV (March 11, 2013) – Two days after losing its first match of the season, the Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team (6-1) rebounded with a resounding 9-0 win over 12th ranked Fresno Pacific (9-4).
The PacWest newcomer also is ranked third in the West Region and had been giving HPU trouble in the past, winning the last two matchups. Monday was a different story.
Doubles was a clean sweep for the Columbia Blue and Kelly Green.
Adriano Locorotondo and
Yann Renault were not tested at second doubles as they cruised to an 8-1 win. The M&M men, (Petr) Michnev and (Gerald) Moretti won again at first singles (8-6) over Kyle Rowe and Kirill Sinitsyn.
Max Hertl and
Jaume Martinez-Vich closed out doubles play with an 8-3 win.
Michnev again met Sinitsyn at first singles and dropped him 6-2, 6-3. Hertl and Renault also won in straight sets without much challenge. Moretti and Locorotondo won the tiebreaker after the outcome of the match had been settled. Martinez-Vich was tied with Marco Gabriel in the third set before Gabriel retired.
HPU will play 14th ranked Abilene Christian tomorrow before playing top ranked Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday.
