WAIPAHU, HI (March 15, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (17-5, 8-2) lost the final game of the four-game series against PacWest rival Dixie State (12-6-1, 5-5-1) by a 5-2 score. HPU took the series by winning the first three matchups.
Tonight's game was a pitcher's duel early on, Dixie State ace Mike Dedrick and Tre Haliburton-Goeas each posted three shutout innings a third of a way into the game.
The Red Storm broke through for two runs in the fourth and then another in the fifth to chase Haliburton-Goeas. HPU answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game. After Dedrick walked the bases loaded,
Chad Bolibol singled in two runs.
Reliever
Matthew Minnich kept HPU in the game, but the HPU offense struggled to get the timely hits. HPU was 0-5 including a double play with runners in scoring position in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.
Dixie State added a pair of runs in the 9th inning to make the final score 5-2.
Minnich gave up two runs (one earned) in four innings of work.
Pulama Silva made his eighth appearance of the season and recorded the final out.
Russell Doi had two of HPU's five hits.
HPU will host Grand Canyon for a four-game series starting on Wednesday at 4:00 PM at Hans L'Orange Park.
