WAIPAHU, HI (March 25, 2013) – The fifth ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (11-1) steamrolled Chaminade (1-11) today at Central Oahu Regional Park. The Sea Warriors just dropped six games in the 9-0 rout.
HPU nearly shutout Chaminade in doubles play, the pair of
Lea Kruse-Utermann and
Karen Ramirez as well as the team of
Celina Goetti and
Ielyzaveta Rybakova each won 8-0.
Vivian Hansen and
Magdalena Smejova just missed the perfect match, winning 8-1.
Goetti and Rybakova moved to 10-1 on the season as doubles partners.
Singles action saw similar Sea Warrior success. HPU did not lose a game after second singles; Hansen, Smejova, Kruse-Utermann, and
Carrie Shuler each won 6-0, 6-0. Goetti just missed blanking her opponent as she triumphed 6-1, 6-0. The closest match was at first singles where Rybakova was hardly tested, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Smejova improved to 9-1 on the season.
The newest ITA rankings are scheduled to be released on Wednesday. HPU has gone 8-1 since the last rankings with wins over the second and third ranked schools in the country while only losing to top ranked Armstrong Atlantic State.
HPU will be hosting the College of Idaho on March 27th at 10:00 AM at Central Oahu Regional Park.
