WAIPIO, HI (April 20, 2013) – The second ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (18-2) suffered just their second loss of the season, dropping the PacWest Women's Tennis Championship game to defending champion BYU-Hawai'i (27-1) on Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park. After handing the Seasiders their only loss of the season earlier this year, HPU fell 5-0.
The Sea Warriors fell behind early dropping first doubles 8-2 and second doubles 8-3.
Ielyzaveta Rybakova and
Celina Goetti put up a strong effort in third doubles, but eventually fell 8-6. In singles play the Seasiders would edge out HPU in first and second singles to secure the 5-0 victory.
HPU moves on to play Grand Canyon University in the West Regional. The winner will move on to the NCAA Division II National Championships in Surprise, AZ.
