AUSTIN, TX (April 5, 2013) – The third ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (13-1) won the second match of its Austin road trip, defeating No. 31 Saint Edwards (8-5) by the score of 8-1. The victory is HPU's fourth road win of the season after playing on the Hilltopper's home courts.
HPU got off to a strong start in doubles play taking two of the three matches.
Lea Kruse-Utermann and
Karen Ramirez cruised to an 8-2 victory in second doubles, while the pair
Celina Goetti and
Ielyzaveta Rybakova won by the same score.
The Sea Warriors took momentum in to singles play as they swept the Hilltoppers 6-0.
Goetti put her 34th national ranking on the line and earned a straight sets victory at second singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Kruse-Utermann coasted in her sixth singles match 6-1, 6-2. After dropping set one 6-7, sophomore
Vivian Hansen rallied to win set two without dropping a game, and then took the tiebreak 1-0.
