Women’s Tennis Back on Oahu, Moves to 2-0

WAIPAHU, HI (January 19, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Women's Tennis Team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 8-1 at Central Oahu Regional Park on Sunday afternoon. The Sea Warriors move to 2-0 on the season while CMS falls to 2-2.

After three straight days of matches against top-level Division I programs on Maui, the Sea Warriors had little time to rest for their match against the Athena.

Any potential weariness of the previous day's matches was not apparent as HPU came out strong winning second and third doubles in blowouts, 8-0 and 8-1 respectively. CMS did salvage a point in doubles action with an 8-6 victory at first doubles, but strong singles play sealed the deal for HPU.

The Sea Warriors did not drop a set in the singles matches, led by Celina Goetti who won at first singles 6-2, 6-2 and Magdalena Smejova who earned a point at the second position winning 6-0, 6-1.

The Sea Warriors return to Maui on January 24th to face yet another DI foe, this time taking on Washington State in Wailea. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
