HOLUA, HI (February 16, 2014) – The fifth-ranked Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team (3-0) defeated #14 UC San Diego (4-4) by a convincing 9-0 score on Sunday afternoon in Holua on the Big Island of Hawaii.   
 
The doubles teams of Petr Michnev/Thibaud Berland and Jaume Martinez-Vich/Mattis Wetzel routed the competition by identical 8-2 scores. Adriano Locorotondo and Yann Renault followed at third singles with an 8-5 triumph.
 
Locorotondo was nearly flawless in a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles to give HPU its fourth point. Wetzel clinched the match by winning the first set 7-6 and then shutting out his opponent in the second. Michnev and Martinez-Vich had little trouble in wins at first and third singles. For the second day in a row, Berland was pushed to a super tiebreak and he again prevailed, 10-2. Renault completed the HPU sweep with a 6-4, 6-4 win.  
     
The Sea Warriors and Tritons have a rematch in La Jolla on March 15th.

HPU will play UH-Hilo in Holua tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
