Box Score 2 WAIPAHU, HI (February 8, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (4-0) swept today's doubleheader from Northwest Nazarene (0-4), but the ways it happened couldn't be any more different. HPU bludgeoned the Crusaders in game one by a 12-1 count, but needed a walk-off hit in the 11th inning to win game two 3-2.
Game two was only scheduled for seven innings, but the fans at Hans L'Orange Park got plenty of bonus baseball. Those HPU fans went home happy when pinch hitter
James Carraway ended the game with a sharp single through the left side of the drawn in infield to score pinch runner
Shannon White.
Hours earlier,
Kevin Lenik opened the scoring in the second inning with a deep home run to left. The ball not only cleared the fence, but the trees beyond it as well. Lenik has been on a tear to start his Sea Warrior career, he is hitting 6-11 with four doubles and the homerun.
Jeremy Fujimoto was dominant in relief, pitching four perfect innings with seven strikeouts.
Brent Daugherty followed with three more shutout innings, earning the win.
Game one was all Sea Warriors from almost the outset. HPU posted five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two RBI hit from
Ryan Torres-Torioka.
That was more than enough support for starter
Wyndam Williams who pitched seven innings while surrendering just one run.
After single tallies in the third and fourth innings, HPU turned the game into a laugher with four more runs in the fifth inning. HPU led 11-0 after five innings.
Jordan Oshiro had three more hits and score three times, but also stole three more bases. That gives Oshiro six steals in four games in 2014.
The two clubs will finish the five-game series on Monday with a single game at Hans L'Orange Park at 3:00 p.m. Â Â
