Women’s Tennis Defeats Another Ranked Foe

Las Vegas, NV (March 18, 2014)—With tennis legend Steffi Graf on hand to cheer them on, the fourth–ranked Hawai`i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (12-1) picked up its fourth straight win over a ranked opponent, defeating #19 Midwestern State (8-1) 6-3.
 
The Sea Warriors continued their trend of winning doubles action by taking two of three matches from the Broncos.
 
Magdalena Smejova and Lorena Gheorghe took second doubles 8-4 while Karen Ramirez and Celina Goetti coasted at first singles 8-1.
 
In single action, the HPU took four of six matches to hand MSU its first loss of the season.
 
Ramirez won first singles 6-3, 6-1 as Goetti also won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Gheorghe earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles and Carrie Schuler stepped up in sixth singles to secure a 6-2, 6-3 win.
 
The Sea Warriors will face the #1 ranked team in the nation, Armstrong Atlantic State in their final Las Vegas match tomorrow.
