Men’s Tennis Sinks Second-Ranked Pirates

LAS Vegas, NV (March 19, 2014)—The fifth-ranked Hawai`i Pacific Men's Tennis Team closed the Las Vegas portion of its road trip in a big way, winning 7-2 over #2 Armstrong Atlantic State (8-4) on Wednesday. The Sea Warriors remain a perfect 12-0 on the season.

HPU set the tone early by winning all three doubles matches.

Thibaud Berland and Petr Michnev earned an 8-6 victory at first doubles while Jaume Martinez-Vich and Mattis Wetzel breezed through second doubles 8-0. The duo of Adriano Locorotondo and Yann Renault made it a sweep for HPU winning 8-5 in the third position.
Singles action was a closer affair.

Michnev earned a straight sets victory at first singles, 6-3, 6-2 as Locorotondo picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Mattis Wetzel provided the match-clinching point for HPU earning a hard fought three set victory over #20 Ignacio Hernandez 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 10-1.

With the win over the #2 Pirates, the Sea Warriors have now beat five top-20 opponents in six days of competition.

HPU now heads to Florida to face the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Barry, on Saturday.
