Women’s Tennis Drops Match to #3 Barry

MIAMI SHORES, FL (March 22, 2014) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (12-3) again played one of the best teams in the country, but lost 5-2 to Barry University (18-1) on the road.
 
The doubles tandem of Lorena Gheorghe and Magdalena Smejova got HPU on the board with an 8-3 win over the #13 team of Karina Goia/Elisabeth Abanda at third doubles. Karen Ramirez and Celina Goetti just missed at first doubles, falling 9-7.
 
Gheorghe was also strong in singles action, beating #9 Abanda handily (6-1, 6-1). Once Barry clinched the match, play was halted due to rain.   
 
HPU's brutal schedule continues as the Sea Warriors travel to Winter Park, FL to play #6 Lynn University tomorrow.
