BOCA RATON, FL (March 23, 2014) – The fourth-ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (12-4) lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to six-ranked Lynn University (20-1) on Sunday morning in Florida.
The match began in the Sea Warrior's favor as the doubles combos of
Magdalena Smejova/
Lorena Gheorghe and
Vivian Hansen/
Lea Kruse-Utermann each doubled up the competition (8-4) to give HPU a 2-1 lead.
After wins at first and second singles, host Lynn took a 3-2 lead. Gheorghe kept up her strong play of late with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at fourth singles to tie the match at three all. Lynn grabbed the lead right back after a victory at sixth singles. Hansen evened the match at four with a three-set win at fifth singles. However, Lynn was able to close out the match at third singles.
The Sea Warriors have one match left on their three-state, 10-day, and eight-match road trip. HPU visits #9 Rollins College on Monday.
