th minute from Michaela Maes proved to be the difference as Point Loma Nazarene University upended the Hawaii Pacific women's soccer team 2-1 in a PacWest Conference contest at the PLNU soccer field.
The Sharks (4-5, 1-3 PacWest) fell behind as Easton Kawawaki scored on a rebound from close range in the fifth minute, but HPU sophomore
Sara Romo equalized the match at 1-1 as she placed her corner kick perfectly high and inside the goal at the 48:07 mark.
The Sea Lions (6-3, 3-1 PacWest) out-shot the Sharks 24-6 in the match, including 15 shots on goal to four. HPU goalkeeper
Lauren Spencer performed admirably, racking up 12 saves and keeping the margin within reach for a potential Sharks comeback.
HPU continues its four-match road trip as the Sharks play Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., on Oct. 8 at 1 p.m., Azusa Pacific University on Oct. 10 at noon and return to Oahu to face Chaminade University on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
