Women’s Soccer Drops Match at Point Loma

Box Score SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (October 6, 2015)—A goal in the 74th minute from Michaela Maes proved to be the difference as Point Loma Nazarene University upended the Hawaii Pacific women's soccer team 2-1 in a PacWest Conference contest at the PLNU soccer field.

The Sharks (4-5, 1-3 PacWest) fell behind as Easton Kawawaki scored on a rebound from close range in the fifth minute, but HPU sophomore Sara Romo equalized the match at 1-1 as she placed her corner kick perfectly high and inside the goal at the 48:07 mark.

The Sea Lions (6-3, 3-1 PacWest) out-shot the Sharks 24-6 in the match, including 15 shots on goal to four. HPU goalkeeper Lauren Spencer performed admirably, racking up 12 saves and keeping the margin within reach for a potential Sharks comeback.

HPU continues its four-match road trip as the Sharks play Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., on Oct. 8 at 1 p.m., Azusa Pacific University on Oct. 10 at noon and return to Oahu to face Chaminade University on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
