Women’s Soccer Bests BYU-Hawaii

Box Score LAIE, Hawaii (November 5, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's soccer team built an early lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over BYU-Hawaii in a PacWest Conference contest at the BYUH Soccer Field.

The Sharks (8-9, 5-7 PacWest) jumped out to an early lead on Sara Romo's goal at the three-minute mark following an assist from Noelle Mercado. Later in the first stanza, senior Breanna Gaddis scored to put the visitors ahead 2-0, and was set up nicely by Mercado's second assist of the half.

The Seasiders (5-9-3, 4-6-2) chipped away at the two-goal deficit as Jessica Smith was assisted by Breana Jarvis in the 70th minute to trim HPU's lead to 2-1. However, the 'Siders could not complete the comeback and were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Both squads pushed the pace on offense as the Sharks ended up with a 15-14 advantage in shots taken and also accumulated seven shots-on-goal compared to six for BYU-Hawaii. HPU was called for 15 fouls compared to just seven for the home team.

HPU returns to action at Atherton Field on Nov. 7 for Senior Day and the season finale against UH Hilo at 12:30 p.m.
