Women’s Tennis Falls to Top Ranked Armstrong

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 18, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (14-3) ran into a buzz saw on wearing an Armstrong State jersey on Wednesday afternoon in Southern California. The sixth-ranked Sharks lost 9-0 to #1 Armstrong (16-0).

Even with the loss, HPU finishes its six-match mainland road trip with a 5-1 record, including five wins against teams ranked in the top 23 in the nation.

Nicole Hoynaski was strong in defeat as she took a set from the #3 player in the nation. It was the only set the Sharks won on the afternoon. Along with doubles partner Kristyna Hancarova, Hoynaski pushed her doubles match to the tie break, but ultimately fell (9-8 (7)).

HPU next returns home to host #12 Academy of Art on March 21st at 10:00 am at Ala Moana Park.
