PENSACOLA, FL (April 1, 2015) – The seventh-ranked Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (15-4) lost 7-2 to #8 West Florida (18-3) to start HPU's four-match Florida road trip.
After losing the first two doubles matches 8-5, the duo of
Vivian Hansen and
Julia Sauer doubled up the competition 8-4 in the third position to make the match 2-1 in favor of the home team heading to singles.
The Sharks showed heart in singles but ultimately lost five of the six matches.
Nicole Hoynaski (7-6, 6-1) picked up a win at second singles over the #18 ranked singles player in the nation.
Kristyna Hancarova (6-4, 4-6, 10-5) and Hansen (2-6, 6-0, 6-0) each won a set and pushed the opposition to the limit but couldn't prevail in the third set.
The Sharks return to the court tomorrow for a neutral site match in Pensacola against #23 Valdosta State.
