HONOLULU, HI (April 8, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team ended the regular season with a perfect 19-0 record after beating rival #17 BYU-Hawai'i (14-8) 5-0 on Wednesday at Ala Moana Park. HPU has now won 37 consecutive regular-season matches.
The third doubles team of
Jaume Martinez-Vich and
Clemens Graute got HPU off to a fast start with an 8-2 win. The second team of
Maik Burlage and
Marko Lenz also earned a victory (8-5) to put HPU on the brink of a doubles sweep. The fifth-ranked duo of
Thibaud Berland and
Yann Renault beat another ranked team (#20) 9-7 to put HPU up 3-0.
The match ended peculiarly as BYU-H's top two players both retired after losing the first set. Both Lenz and Berland won the first set 6-1 and are credited with wins. Martinez-Vich and
Jakub Hadrava were both winning at the time of the match being called.
The top ranked men's tennis team will next compete in the Pacific West Conference Tournament from April 16th-19th on a neutral court in Surprise, Arizona.
