SURPRISE, AZ (May 14, 2015) – The top ranked Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team (23-0) moved onto the national semifinals with a 5-0 shutout win over #49 Bluefield State (16-7) on Thursday. The Sharks are now 4-0 this postseason, all in Surprise, winning by a combined score of 20-0.
The Sharks came out on a mission, winning all three doubles matches while not yielding more than four games in any match. The duos of
Maik Burlage/
Marko Lenz and
Clemens Graute/
Jaume Martinez-Vich each won by 8-4 counts.
Thibaud Berland and
Yann Renault (#1) had little trouble at first doubles, advancing 8-3.
It was a race to finish in singles. Second ranked Lenz blasted his opponent 6-0, 6-1 at the top of the lineup. Renault clinched the match when he won 6-3, 6-2 at sixth singles. Burlage, Martinez-Vich, and Berland all had won the first set before the match was decided.
HPU will play #4 Armstrong State tomorrow (May 15th) at noon after Armstrong dumped #3 West Florida in the quarterfinals. The other semifinal features #2 Barry and #8 Lander. All matches are on a neutral court in Surprise.
